His group at Merrill helped usher in a new era for REITs by bringing the first operating REIT public in 1991--raising $130 million for mall developer Kimco Realty. Saltzman, an affable, innovative dealmaker and a New York licensed real estate broker, is a member of the investment committees of a series of Zell/Merrill Lynch Opportunity funds.
