Strategies for Pain-Free Planning

-- Start at least 18 months in advance so you can give people plenty of notice. Assume it will take longer than you expect to make plans.

-- Take up a collection early for a fund to cover incidental expenses, including mailings, deposits, and supplies.

-- Communicate regularly with relatives to update them on plans and get their opinions on key decisions.

-- Plan activities for a variety of age groups and interests. This is where you can delegate like mad.

-- Before the reunion ends, have the family vote on whether to hold another one. Then, decide when and where, and--most important--who will plan it.
