MICROSOFT LANDING

Microsoft rarely makes a misstep--so when it does, investors move fast. On Mar. 24, it said the new version of Windows wouldn't be ready in time for the fall personal-computer selling season. As a result, Microsoft's stock dropped 3 5/8, to 90 3/8, on a day the Dow rose 100 points. But this delay may not hurt Microsoft much, since analysts had not expected a big jump in Windows sales this year anyway. And sure enough, investors pushed Microsoft's stock back up to 94 1/4 on Mar. 26.
