U.S. ROBOTICS has lined up the most Internet service providers behind its 56-kbs modem technology, including America Online, Prodigy, MCI, and CompuServe. Demand from users of such services is fueling the boom in modem sales.

ROCKWELL AND LUCENT have 70% of the companies that sell modems and personal computers, including Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, and Toshiba, as well as modem makers Hayes, Xircom, and Zoom.
