CURBING CYBERTAXES

Representative Christopher Cox (R-Calif.) and Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) will soon propose a moratorium on any new federal, state, or local taxation of electronic commerce. Internet-dependent businesses have been fighting efforts by revenue-hungry states and localities to tax online transactions. The Cox-Wyden bill calls on the Clinton Administration to produce a comprehensive Net policy. The Clintonites have been receptive to keeping the Net tax-free.
