MAKE YOUR OWN MULTIMEDIA E-MAIL

EVEN TODAY, WITH THE World Wide Web exploding like a supernova, the Internet's biggest attraction for most people remains electronic mail. It combines the creativity of letter-writing with the immediacy of a phone call. Now, with software from RealMedia Inc. in Boulder, Colo., correspondents will be able to add digitized photos and snippets of voice, too.

RealMedia's SeeMail software lists for $129, which includes a digital camera, and it's available for both IBM-compatible and Apple Computer Inc.'s Macintosh computers. SeeMail walks you through the steps of snapping a picture, compressing the image, and attaching the resulting file to any E-mail message. If you have a microphone and sound card, the program can record and attach a voice message. And if your correspondent doesn't have SeeMail, you can attach to the E-mail a special version of the RealMedia software that will allow the receiver both to see and hear you. SeeMail works with direct connections to the Internet or over services such as American Online and CompuServe.
