SWING TIMEA standard computer screen is wider than it is high, but most World Wide Web pages are vertically oriented. So it helps to have a pivoting monitor, such as the MicroScan 17x from ADI Systems (408 944-0100) or the Pivot 1700 from Portrait Display Labs (510 227-2700). They can be used as either a conventional 17-inch monitor or, with an effortless turn, as a display that's about 13-inches high and 9 1/2-inches wide. Vertical orientation makes it easy to view a page without scrolling. The identical monitors, produced through a joint hardware/software effort, cost about $925. By Stephen H. Wildstrom
