PAUL H. O'NEILL

In early 1994, an avalanche of cheap Russian metal threatened to bury America's world-leading aluminum companies. Aluminum Co. of America's CEO, 60-year-old PAUL H. O'NEILL, pushed for a multinational solution, which included painful smelter shutdowns in the U.S. He also pressed forward with global acquisitions, from Italy to Australia.
