TECHNOLOGY

Technology improvements in the last three academic years:

Villanova has enhanced audio visual, web, and podcasting and video conferencing options across all 150+ classrooms on campus. The academic portal/learning management system integrates Wimba, iTunesU repository, Safeassign anti-plagiarism software, electronic reserves, wikis and blogs, online testing, and You Tube content. The Microsoft Exchange email and calendar platform is used across campus. Villanova maintains 475 mb of internet bandwidth, which includes a 25 mb Internet 2 connection. In addition to 18,000 network connections, Villanova has wireless connectivity covering 80% of the campus, including most residence halls and all academic buildings. Villanova has “Nova Alert,” an emergency notification system, a campus card-based student print system, an off-campus merchant purchasing program, and a basketball lottery system.

The cornerstone of the admissions process for VSB is the determination of wheter there is an appropriate fit between the VSB Executive MBA program and the life goals of the applicant. The program is innovative, rigorous, and requires a deep committment on the part of all students, faculty, and staff who participate in it. Each incoming class is comprised of a diverse group of highly skilled, emerging executive leaders who want to transform the way they lead organizations. VSB executive MBA students want to challenge themselves to change, grow, and view the world differently as a result of their learning experience.

Graduate Comments

Villanova provided curriculum geared to the current business environment. The faculty was composed of a good mix of faculty and adjunct professors, giving a good mix of practical industry experience with the core academic fundamentals.

Villanova's curriculum struck a perfect balance between finance, leadership, ethics, global strategy and systems design which now provides me with the business acumen necessary to lead in a highly dynamic, competitive business environment.

Villanova was positioned well to educate executives and prepare them for the business world in a particularly tumultuous time in history. The focus on systems thinking, risk management, ethics and technology provided me with the right set of skills at the right time. While other programs are scrambling to reexamine and recreate curriculum, the Villanova EMBA program is already poised for success.

Villanova provided a stellar learning environment and the teachers were of the utmost caliber. Additionally, the program's curriculum was designed in a manner which was ahead of its time, with significant incorporation of systemic leadership and risk management.

The program provided the quantitative framework and qualitative experiences to help transform me from an emerging to an effective executive leader.

Villanova University builds its EMBA program around the concept of Systems Thinking which teaches you how to define the problem before you seek a solution.

Villanova's strengths are their experiences and depth of knowledge and their ability to pull from the experiences of the members in the class, adapting real time to the changing business environments and real life situations. Villanova was able to relate concepts to the real world and brought in to the subject the current events of the business world so we had a better understanding of the economy as we were living in.

One of Villanova's strengths was the highly integrated curriculum with a focus on systems thinking. Weaknesses included the lack of electives and limited international case studies.

The Villanova culture was very collaborative, which was good. However, the class would have benefitted from a bit more skepticism and challenges from classmates in order to increase the rigor of presentations and business cases being presented.

The emphasis on systems thinking, ethical business practices and risk management gave Villanova EMBA students a clear advantage compared to their peers. The program is deeply routed in Villanova's Augustinian values that encourage holistic development of the person: allowing students, faculty and staff to grow intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, culturally, socially and physically in an environment that supports individual differences and insists that mutual love and respect should animate every aspect of university life.

This program was by far the deepest and rewarding academic experience of my life. Every day I have the opportunity to apply the skills and competencies developed during the program.
